Hornet's Nest - Book one in the
Jara Quinn Series
Jara Quinn's life changed forever in college when her parents were killed in a car accident, leaving her adrift and grieving. Determined to honor their memory, she completed her studies and found solace in the arms of Katerina Lansing, the passionate and ambitious woman who became her first love. But after graduation, life pulled them in different directions—Jara joined the FBI, driven by a need for justice, while Katerina pursued a law career, dedicated to upholding the truth. Though they stayed in touch, their relationship became a bittersweet friendship rather than the romance they once shared.
Years later, Katerina's world is turned upside down when her father announces his bid for president and her beloved grandmother dies under suspicious circumstances after learning her Foundation was hemorrhaging money. Desperate and unsure whom to trust, Katerina reaches out to Jara for help. Reunited, the spark between them reignites while they confront the mysteries surrounding Katerina’s powerful family.
As the pair delves deeper, they uncover hidden truths, dangerous alliances, and a sinister plot that threatens the people they hold dear. The dangers they face test not only their courage but the fragile bond of their rekindled love.
In the face of secrets, betrayal, and imminent danger, Jara and Katerina must decide if their love is real and strong enough to withstand the darkness that surrounds them. With lives at stake and time running out, can they protect Katerina's family and find a way to heal themselves?

Intense family drama!
Katerina’s father announcing he is bidding to be president brings FBI agent, and blast from her past, Jara back into her life. She was her first love and with the loss of her grandmother and something suspicious happening with her Foundation, Jara is just back in time to be of help and for them to rekindle their feelings for one another.
From the start I knew this was going to get interesting. There was so much history between Katerina and Jara but it really did feel as if no time had passed for them at all. They fitted with one another perfectly and Jara was a great support to Katerina through the trauma and upheaval that she was going through. As with anything that has a political element, it just wouldn’t be without scandal and secrets that need to be investigated and uncovered. Some of the revelations for Katerina’s family were absolutely shocking, and I’d not been able to work any of it out, so it was all a surprise when they started realising what was going on. The secrets and lies fuelled her family and seemed to have been doing that for years, so there was so much to unpack.
Jara and Katerina made a great team. Intuition told them both a lot of what they needed to know, and some of the things they uncovered, especially for Katerina were heartbreaking and played with her already fragile emotions. Jara remained strong for them both, never wavering and staying loyal and true to herself, her job, and the woman she loved. It would have been easy for her to compromise her professionality, especially with Katerina’s dad putting her in difficult positions, but I admired how she didn’t and wouldn’t give in to any of that.
I was hooked from the very start and just hoping they would find happiness and all the secrets, lies, and danger wouldn’t get in their way.
PRAISE FOR THE HORNET'S NEST

PROMISING START TO THE JARA QUINN SERIES
Fast-paced, engrossing read!
Hornet’s Nest by Lee Sato is a promising start to the Jara Quinn series; it’s tense, unpredictable, and brimming with emotional depth. The gripping twists keep you hooked, but it’s the layered characters and flashes of vulnerability that truly make the novel linger in your mind. Sato has built a world where trust is fragile, danger hides in plain sight, and shifting loyalties keep you second-guessing right up to the final page. The result is a highly entertaining and emotionally resonant read.
Sato doesn’t take shortcuts with the romance in this book. Jara and Katerina’s love affair isn’t a side note; it’s the emotional anchor of the novel. It develops slowly, rooted not only in shared history but in the deliberate choice to build something new together. Sato portrays this with tenderness, showing Jara gradually setting aside her emotional armor while Katerina learns that true strength sometimes lies in letting go. What begins as something tentative and uncertain evolves into a resilience that becomes central to both their survival and their love.
The intrigue Sato weaves into the narrative strengthens her storytelling, making Hornet’s Nest especially captivating. She uses the political backdrop of Katerina’s family to skillfully raise the stakes, exploring how power can twist loyalty, blur moral lines, and make justice a shifting concept. When Katerina’s father announces his presidential run, she is drawn into the high-wire act of balancing public image with explosive family truths. The result is a smart, tightly paced mystery that delivers both adrenaline and depth. It’s the kind of story that one races through to find out what happens next.
Final Remarks…
Hornet’s Nest is a tightly woven mystery-thriller that pulls you in from the very first page. Sato blends sharp intelligence with genuine warmth, creating a story that feels both thrilling and deeply human. The ever-present sense of danger hums in the background, yet the romance develops with an authenticity and ease that make it feel real, never forced. More than a subplot, the love story becomes a lens through which the novel explores justice, loss, resilience, and the risks that come with trust. In the end, Hornet’s Nest isn’t just a thrilling story, it’s a strong opening to a promising series.

“Hornet’s Nest: Twists, Tension, and a Love Story You’ll Actually Believe”
I just tore through Hornet’s Nest by Lee Sato, and damn, this debut completely nailed it. Imagine an FBI agent––Jara Quinn––haunted by grief, meeting up with her ex‑lover Katerina Lansing, whose powerful family is suddenly wrapped in scandal and deadly secrets. Political intrigue, a foundation bleeding money, and grandma’s suspicious death? Talk about next-level drama.
But here’s what really sold me: it’s not just the twists (though there are plenty) or the suspense (page‑turner alert)—it’s how human the characters feel. Jara is all grit and heart, Katerina is fiery yet vulnerable, and their chemistry hits right in the chest.
Lee Sato’s background—years investigating crimes against kids, gangs, and trafficking—bleeds into the storytelling in the best way. There’s real-world weight here, not just fanciful plotting.
Early readers are equally smitten. One ARC reviewer, BookishPenguin, said, “A true mystery… it was really good! So many twists. I was hooked!” Fair warning: they’re not kidding.
At the end of the day, Hornet’s Nest is equal parts intelligent, emotional, and thrilling. Sato doesn’t shy away from messy complexity, and it makes the story richer. If you’re looking for a romantic thriller that’s real, surprising, and unapologetically bold—this is it
